National Chiropractic Health Month

October doesn’t only mark the start of spooky season but it also marks the start of National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM). NCHM was created by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) as a way to encourage the public to think about their musculoskeletal healthcare. Musculoskeletal conditions affect our overall health. If our muscles and bones are in discomfort or pain, it can be impossible to function.

This year’s focus for National Chiropractic Health Month is “Active and Adaptive.”

With a worldwide pandemic forcing all of us into a new normal, we need to learn how to stay more active no matter what. Since COVID-19 started, people are moving their bodies less than ever before. Many people are experiencing pain in parts of their bodies where they haven’t in the past.

You can adjust to a new normal routine to help prevent, alleviate, or completely eliminate pain. The first adjustment you should look at is fixing your posture. When sitting, improve your posture by keeping your feet flat on the floor, adjust your chair’s lumbar support or put a pillow behind your lower back, and avoid sitting in the same position for long periods of time.

Second, improve your home workstation. You can do this by finding a place in your home where you can easily adjust your posture, such as using a chair and desk or table to work instead of your couch. Also, bring the top of your computer screen up to eye level in order to avoid neck pain. You should be looking slightly down at your screen. Lastly, use a headset when you talk on the phone so you aren’t creating pain in your neck or shoulder with a handset in your hand or on your shoulder.

Lastly, stay active! As you know, going to the gym is a high-risk of exposure, but there are so many ways that you can start exercising at home. You don’t have to do a classic workout at home. Consider starting a routine of walking, biking, swimming, or another activity. Just 30 minutes of activity a day can help keep your musculoskeletal health up!

If you are still experiencing pain and want to avoid pain medication, we’re open and our healthcare professionals are available to help you with posture, ergonomics, and exercises, as well as chiropractic care, spinal manipulation, and many more treatment options at our interdisciplinary clinics. You can also come into one of our clinics to check if there might be another underlying issue. With our new patient $19 deal, we provide an exam and x-rays (if needed) to help you move to a pain-free new normal.

We would also like to say thank you to all of our Doctors of Chiropractic and Chiropractic assistants for all the work they do for our patients.
