Dr. Joanne Tellez is a native of Los Angeles, California. She was an active kid and suffered many injuries growing up and she was never able to get the treatment that she needed. This frustration influenced her to learn about her injuries and how to rehabilitate herself. This is how her interest in musculoskeletal injuries first developed
After receiving her undergraduate degree from American Public University, Dr. Tellez went on to receive her doctorate in chiropractic from Southern California University of Health Services. While she was studying for her doctorate, her interest shifted towards spine care and helping people get out of pain and back to work.
During Dr. Tellezs’ last year of chiropractic school, she was selected for a 3-month rotation at the VA hospital in Loma Linda, CA. There is where she was able to observe procedures in the pain management, rheumatology, and neurology clinics. She even had the opportunity to attend lectures alongside other medical students and doctors.
After her 3-month rotation at the hospital, Dr. Tellez realized that she enjoyed the integrated environment and wanted to continue to work in the same type of environment. This lead her to start her career at BackFit Health + Spine.
Dr. Tellez enjoys working at BackFit because she likes being the director of her patient’s care. She enjoys being able to make sure her patients are receiving the proper care they need and being able to take the time to explain their condition and treatment plan to them. Her goal when working with patients is to make sure they have an understanding of every step of the treatment process.
When Dr. Tellez is not working with patients or expanding her expertise in spine care and personal injury, she enjoys weight-training, jiu-jitsu, and nature. Outside of Backfit, she spends time with her husband either exploring the great outdoors or exploring the great world of Netflix.
