What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome and double crush syndrome cause numbness, tingling and pain in the wrist, hand and fingers. Because both of these syndromes have the same type of symptoms, a misdiagnosis is possible. At BackFit Health + Spine our TEAM of Medical Doctors, Pain Specialists, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists and Massage Therapists have decades of experience on the proper diagnostic techniques that are essential to getting an accurate diagnosis and therefore proper treatment. Let us help you get the relief that you need today.

What Treatment Options are Available?

Our number one goal is to get you relief as quickly as possible which is why we have an entire TEAM dedicated to working together to get you better faster. Our focus will be on utilizing more natural methods of treatment and avoiding unnecessary and costly surgeries. There are several noninvasive therapies that can be used to eliminate the pain and correct the underlying structural issues associated with both conditions. Some of these therapies include:

  • Medical Care: Regenerative Medicine (Stem Cells and PRP-Platelet Rich Plasma) is the latest and most advanced Natural option available today to heal damage caused by carpal tunnel or double crush syndrome. Other options could include a specific non-steroidal injection to the injured area for immediate relief.  Topical Anti-inflammatory medications may be prescribed to relieve pain and decrease inflammation. These anti-inflammatory medications block Cox-1 and 2 enzymes that cause inflammation in the body.
  • Chiropractic treatment can be used to ease the symptoms of double crush syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome. A chiropractor will manipulate the upper spine to correct misalignments of the body that may be causing your pain, tingling, and numbness in your hands. Additionally, manipulations can be done to the forearm, elbow, and wrist to correct restrictions that could be causing pressure to the nerve.
  • Diagnostic Testing may be necessary to properly diagnose the condition ie: X-Rays, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, EMG/NCV
  • Tenex TM Targeted Chronic tendon Pain scar tissue removal repair
  • Ergonomic Modifications The patient may need to make changes to the way they use their hands, wear a wrist splint and use ergonomic aids, such as an ergonomic keyboard and an ergonomic wrist rest.
  • Massage Therapy to stretch and relax the tight and damaged muscles and ligaments is very helpful when in conjunction with proper physical therapy and chiropractic care.
  • Physical therapy to strengthen the muscles and tendons in the neck, hands and wrists and to increase mobility. The physical therapist will lead the patient through exercises to help the tendons glide more smoothly through the carpal tunnel. Another technique used is ultrasound. Ultrasound sends pulsating sound waves into the carpal tunnel to promote healing and decrease pain and inflammation.
